Mark Philippoussis
(AUS) |
Calabasas - With solid shots and powerful
serves, Mark Philippoussis (AUS) moves into the quarterfinals with a win
over Harel Levy (ISR) 6-3, 6-4.
Philippoussis, who has been working out in
Las Vegas with Darren Cahill and Gil Reyes, showed he has the potential
for a big come back. "I feel I still have my best tennis ahead of me",
he said after his match. With a positive attitude and perhaps a new
outlook on the game, Philippoussis appears to be well on his way. "Everyday, when
I wake up, I tell myself I'm going to give 100%". He will turn 30 in a
couple weeks.
Philippoussis is seeded fourth which leaves
room for a very exciting weekend at the $50,000 Calabasas Challenger.
Robert Kendrick (USA), who took Rafa Nadal 5 sets at Wimbledon this year
and first seed Danai Udomchoke (THA) are still battling for this title.
This is a rare opportunity to see such high quality tennis in a local
intimate setting.
Hosting the tournament is the Calabasas
Tennis & Swim Club run by Top Seed Tennis Academy. Tuesday night, Top
Seed Academy hosted USTA/WTT league Night. Tennis community leaders were
recognized for their dedication to tennis in the San Fernando Valley.
Tournament Director, Jeff Richards (pictured below) says attendance is
